Jonathan Nolan

Screenwriter, Producer, Director and Author ("Memento", "The Prestige", "Westworld")


Jonathan Nolan is a celebrated screenwriter, director, and television producer who heads up his production company Kilter Films with his wife Lisa Joy. Nolan earned an Academy Award nomination for “Best Original Screenplay” and a Golden Globe nomination for “Best Screenplay – Motion Picture” for the acclaimed noir drama MEMENTO, which was based on his short story “Memento Mori” and also marked his first feature film writing credit. The nomination was shared with his brother, Christopher Nolan, who also directed the feature.

The brothers subsequently teamed up on the screenplay for THE PRESTIGE, starring Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, and Scarlett Johansson. Together, they also wrote the screenplay for the blockbuster THE DARK KNIGHT, for which they received a Writers Guild of America Award nomination, as well as THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, which became the most financially successful Batman movie of all time. Their fifth collaboration was on the film INTERSTELLAR.

In television, Nolan created the CBS hit drama “Person of Interest” under Kilter Films. This show starred Jim Caviezel and Michael Emerson and ran for five seasons.

Nolan and Joy co-created HBO’s “Westworld”, which aired its first season in 2016 to rave reviews.  The debut season received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for Best Drama Series.  Nolan received two additional Emmy nominations—Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Writing—as well as DGA, PGA, and WGA Award nominations for his work on the season, which is the most-watched first season of an HBO original series ever. The show’s second season will premiere in 2018.

Nolan was born in London, and grew up in the Chicago area. He currently resides in Los Angeles with his family.
