The first annual InterPlanetary Festival seeks to change the world one planet at a time. But how? By bringing Complexity science — its tools, resources, frameworks — to the masses, to train future planetologists, with the hope that every earthling can more readily understand whole, living planets. With planetary understanding, we’re more capable of succeeding in our exploration (and colonization) of moons and other planets. And with a complete, complex, understanding of living systems, we might find solutions to earth’s most troubling problems, as we overcome all of the challenges to establishing an InterPlanetary civilization.

The InterPlanetary Festival will draw space enthusiasts from around the world for a two-day celebration of human ingenuity. The festival will transform the Railyard District in downtown Santa Fe with an expo showcasing innovation and technology for humanity’s future in space. Concurrent with the expo, participants can enjoy open-air concerts, maker spaces, lectures and panel discussions, a Sci-Fi film showcase, curated art walks, art talks, and immersive installations, cosplay and gaming centered around InterPlanetary topics and citizen science.

This festival is proud to coincide with the opening of the CURRENTS New Media Art Installation, and the inaugural Nation of Makers Convention (NOMCON).  The Santa Fe Institute is one of 7 partners committed to the convergence of science and art in the city of Santa Fe, NM (#FUTURITION) along with CURRENTS, Axle Contemporary, form & concept, Thoma Foundation, Meow Wolf and the Santa Fe Railyard Community Corporation.

Additional information about the scope of the InterPlanetary Project can be found here.

Nope! The InterPlanetary Festival is free to attend thanks to our generous corporate partners. If you want to catch certain screenings at the Violet Crown, you will need to buy/reserve tickets for those films – but all of the panels, art installations, concerts, the market, and the Innovations and Ideas Expo are free and open to the public. All you have to do is Register!

We have multiple sponsorship levels available to fit your needs, and are excited to partner with organizations both large and small. Sponsor a panel discussion or a concert. Host a booth in our Innovations and Ideas expo. Sponsor an InterPlanetary Installation. Make your product the official product of the InterPlanetary Festival. If your organization is thinking about humanity’s future, let us show you off to the universe! If you are interested in getting involved, send an email of inquiry to interplanetarysfi@gmail.com and we will be happy to discuss specifics with you.
